How to Strengthen your skin barrier for a healthy complexion

Alexander Brosda, CEO of Sokörpe Laboratories, explains how you can protect this all-important epidermal layer with Sokörpe Skin-Care.

Our skin is the first line of defense against external factors that can damage our health, such as pollutants, UV rays, and bacteria. However, this protection depends on the integrity of our skin barrier, a thin layer of lipids and proteins that sits on the outermost layer of our skin, the epidermis. When the skin barrier is compromised, our skin becomes more susceptible to dryness, irritation, inflammation, and even infection.

Fortunately, there are many ways to strengthen our skin barrier and maintain a healthy complexion. Here are some tips from Alexander Brosda, CEO of Sokörpe Laboratories, the cutting-edge skin-care company that specializes in developing products that nourish and protect the skin barrier.

1. Use gentle, pH-balanced cleansers

One of the most common mistakes people make is using harsh or alkaline cleansers that strip away the natural oils and disrupt the pH balance of the skin. This can weaken the skin barrier and lead to dehydration, sensitivity, and acne. Instead, choose a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser that removes dirt and impurities without compromising the skin's natural defenses.

Alexander Brosda recommends using Sokörpe’s HydroKleanse™ Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) Facial Cleanser Cream, which is formulated with nourishing plant oils and emollients that cleanse the skin while replenishing moisture and soothing inflammation. The cream also contains prebiotics that support the skin's microbiome, the beneficial bacteria that help maintain a healthy barrier function.

2. Moisturize regularly

Keeping the skin well-hydrated is essential for maintaining a strong skin barrier. When the skin is dry, it becomes more prone to cracking, flaking, and itching, which can compromise its protective function. Therefore, it's important to use a moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type and provides enough hydration without clogging the pores or causing irritation.

Alexander Brosda recommends Sokörpe’s Vitamin C Intense Facial Moisturizer Influxx™, which is specifically designed to repair and protect the skin barrier. The cream contains a blend of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids that mimic the natural lipid structure of the skin, helping to fortify and seal in moisture. The cream also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients that help reduce redness and prevent environmental damage.

3. Avoid harsh exfoliants

Exfoliation can be a great way to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover, but it's important to avoid harsh scrubs or acids that can damage the skin barrier. Over-exfoliating can lead to dryness, irritation, and even infections, as it can create small tears in the skin that allow bacteria to enter.

Alexander Brosda recommends using its Sokörpe’s Amande Plus™ Mandelic Acid Serum, which gently dissolves dead skin cells without abrasive particles or acids. The gentle peel contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from beet sugar, that breaks down the protein bonds that hold dead skin cells together. This results in a smoother, brighter complexion without compromising the skin barrier.

4. Potect the barrier function with Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is an important ingredient for maintaining a healthy skin barrier. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps retain moisture and keep the skin hydrated by attracting and hold water molecules.

When applied topically, Sokörpe’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum can help improve skin hydration, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance the skin's natural barrier function. It can also soothe and calm the skin, making it beneficial for people with sensitive or irritated skin.

Sokörpe Laboratories' Hyaluronic Acid Serum for example, contains HA along with other moisturizing and barrier-repairing ingredients such as ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids. Together, these ingredients help strengthen and protect the skin barrier, while providing long-lasting hydration to the skin.

5. Protect your skin from sunburn

Sunburn is one of the most damaging factors for the skin barrier, as it can cause DNA damage, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Therefore, it's important to wear protective clothing that protects against both UVA and UVB rays when you spend a lot of time outdoors.

Alexander Brosda recommends Sokörpe’s 20% 3-O-Ethylated Ascorbic Acid Solution (EAA), which is lightweight, non-greasy, and provides photoprotection by SPF Determination (FDA), benefits anti-oxidation, as it scavenges free radicals, therefore protecting the DNA from UV fight (photoaging), while stimulating collagen synthesis, reducing dark spots, even out skin tone and inhibit melanogenesis without clogging the pores or causing irritation. It is not a sunscreen, as it does not absorb or scatter UVA or UVB spectrum; however, its anti-oxidant property can protect skin against UV-induced free radicals therefore achieving photoprotection and help repair and protect the skin barrier. It should be applied prior to any sunscreen and after suncreen has been gently exfoliated off the skin.

6. Eat a healthy diet and stay hydrated

What you eat and drink can have a significant impact on the health of your skin barrier. Eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can provide your skin with the nutrients it needs to function properly. Certain vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium, are particularly important for maintaining healthy skin.

Drinking enough water is also crucial for keeping your skin hydrated and plump. When you're dehydrated, your skin can become dry, flaky, and less resilient, which can weaken its protective function. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and more if you're exercising or spending time in hot, dry environments.

By following these tips and using Sokörpe Laboratories' skin-care products, you can strengthen your skin barrier and achieve a healthy, radiant complexion. Remember, taking care of your skin is not just about looking good, but also about feeling good and protecting.
