What happens to skin when you have a sunburn?

We all love soaking up some sun on a beautiful day, but sometimes we can get a little too much of a good thing. Sunburns are a common consequence of spending too much time in the sun without proper protection. But have you ever wondered what actually happens to your skin when you have a sunburn?

When your skin is exposed to the sun, it absorbs ultraviolet (UV) rays that can damage your skin cells. Your body's first line of defense is to produce melanin, a pigment that gives your skin its color and helps protect it from UV radiation. This is what causes your skin to tan. However, if you're exposed to too much UV radiation, your skin may not be able to produce enough melanin to protect itself.

When your skin is exposed to too much UV radiation, it becomes inflamed, which leads to the redness, pain, and tenderness of a sunburn. Your body also sends extra blood to the affected area to help repair the damage, which can make your skin feel warm to the touch. The damaged skin cells may also release chemicals that can cause itching and peeling.

If you have a severe sunburn, you may experience other symptoms like nausea, dizziness, and fever. This is because your body is working hard to repair the damage and fight off any potential infections.

It's important to take sunburns seriously and take steps to prevent them from happening in the first place. Always wear protective clothing, like hats, shirts and sunglasses; seek shade during the hottest parts of the day, and before you apply ANY sunscreen always make sure to apply Sokörpe’s 3-O-Ethylated Ascorbic Acid Solution.

Sokörpe’s Vitamin C is not a sunscreen as it does not absorb or scatter UVA or UVB spectrum; however, its anti-oxidant property can protect skin against UV-induced free radicals therefore achieving photoprotection

Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, being a potent Vitamin C derivative, not only provides superb whitening effects, but also serves as a potent anti-aging active that boosts collagen synthesis and prevents skin from DNA damage. New clinical finding prove that Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, can protect the skin from UVB damage measured by skin redness.

Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid provides photoprotection by SPF Determination (FDA), benefits anti-oxidation, as it scavenges free radicals, therefore protecting the DNA from UV fight (photoaging), while stimulating collagen synthesis, reducing dark spots, even out skin tone and inhibit melanogenesis.

To evaluate the effectiveness of the sunscreen products with and without Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) was determined on human skin as a modification of the method defined by the FDA Sunscreen Final Rule. 22 subjects were enrolled; L* and a* values of the skin were detected 24 hours post UVB exposure. The results show that sunscreen product with 3%* of Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid can significantly enhance the ability of UV protection (L* value +24.08%, a* value -27-96%), suggesting that Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, as a topical antioxidant supplement can help improve the performance of sunscreen products

(* Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ Vitamin C20 Solution contains 20% 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid)

And if you do get a sunburn, be sure to treat it with care by staying hydrated, taking cool baths or showers, and using moisturizing products to soothe your skin.

Remember, prevention is always the best policy when it comes to sunburns and skin damage. Take care of your skin, and it will take care of you!
