What Is 3-O-Ethyl-L-Ascorbic Acid?

l-ascorbic acid (AA), commonly known as vitamin C, has been widely used in topical formulations for many years as an antioxidant and anti-aging ingredient.

However, the physicochemical properties of AA are not optimal for skin uptake and the molecule is also unstable, readily undergoing oxidation on exposure to air. Which means, every time you open a bottle for your patient, or the patient opens the bottle at home, it interacts with oxygen and light, and the vitamin C simply evaporates by 50% every time. After opening a regular vitamin C bottle 7, 8 times, there is essentially no active form of vitamin C left in the formulation.

The compound 3-o-ethyl-l-ascorbic acid (EAA) has been further developed by Sokörpe Laboratories as a stable vitamin C derivative and is being used in a topical product we branded Super Boost.

Super Boost™ - does not only provide superb whitening effects, but also serves as a potent anti-aging active that boosts collagen synthesis and prevents skin from DNA damage.

Sokörpe’s Super Boost™ 3-o-ethyl-l-ascorbic acid provides photoprotection by SPF Determination (FDA), benefits anti-oxidation, as it scavenges free radicals, therefore protecting the DNA from UV fight (photoaging), while stimulating collagen synthesis, reducing dark spots, even out skin tone and inhibit melanogenesis.

What’s in the bottle?

3 Ingredients Only!

1.) 3-o-ethyl-l-ascorbic acid

2.) Propanediol is a three-carbon diol derived from corn sugar.

TYPE OF INGREDIENT: Solvent, humectant, and emollient.

MAIN BENEFITS: Dissolves ingredients, decreases viscosity, and retains moisture.

WHO SHOULD USE IT: Generally, anyone looking for an alternative to propylene glycol in their skincare.

HOW OFTEN CAN YOU USE IT: Propanediol is a safe ingredient to use regularly, provided that you do not have a sensitivity to it.

WORKS WELL WITH: According to dermatologists, propanediol works well with most, if not all, ingredients.

3.) Ferulic acid is an antioxidant that works to boost the effects of other antioxidants. When used in our skin care products, it helps to protect overall skin integrity by reducing the development of fine lines, spots, and wrinkles.

Propanediol vs. Propylene Glycol

It is easy to see how 1,2-Propanediol and 1,3-Propanediol (aka propylene glycol and propanediol, respectively) could be regularly confused for each other. The two ingredients are very similar and even share the same chemical formula; however, they have different chemical structures, which changes the way they function.

But structurally is not the only way the ingredients differ. Propanediol is derived from corn, while propylene glycol is derived from petrochemicals. Propanediol is commonly used as an alternative to propylene glycol for those who want products that do not contain petroleum-based glycols.
