What Is MSM (Organic Sulfur) – And Why Do We Mix It Into Sokörpe Skincare Products?
MSM is an organic sulfur found in fruits, vegetables, grains, as well as in milk and the urine of animals. It is an oxidation product of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and a source of sulfur for producing the amino acids methionine (critically necessary to make proteins - collagen, to hold the tissue of the human body together as it provides structural support and impacts the flexibility and resilience of skin) and cysteine (plays a role in the communication between immune system cells, as it produces the antioxidant glutathione, as well as the amino acid taurine).
Therefore, MSM may be beneficial for skin health by acting as a sulfur donor to keratin.
MSM can be topically applied to the skin to reduce puffiness, discoloration and swelling, lessen reddened and swollen skin. Whereas most acne treatments address clogged pores with harsh chemicals, MSM offers a gentler way to treat inflammation associated with acne. It is also applied topically to manage conditions such as dandruff, rosacea to psoriasis.
We add our vegetable derived Organic MSM to our skincare products as research has shown that MSM helps regulate key genes involved with healthy and younger-looking skin. MSM helps dry out the surface of your skin to absorb excess oil (sebum) that may contribute to acne breakouts. It also dries out dead skin cells to help unclog your pores, consequently making it an ideal acne-fighting/ impurity-fighting ingredient.
