What is N-Acetyl Glucosamine (NAG)

N-Acetyl Glucosamine (NAG) is a naturally occurring amino sugar and a derivative of glucose. It is naturally found in various tissues of the human body, including the skin, bones, and connective tissue.

NAG, developed by Sokörpe® Laboratories Skin-Care Innovations™ for our AMORY Niacinamide Serum inhibits the production of melanin, which helps to reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation on the skin. It is a derivative of glucose, a simple sugar that is produced through photosynthesis in plants. However, N-Acetyl Glucosamine is typically synthesized in the laboratory using a process called chitin hydrolysis.

Chitin is a naturally occurring biopolymer found in the shells of crustaceans, insects, and fungi. It is hydrolyzed, or broken down, into its component parts, including N-Acetyl Glucosamine. This process is typically carried out using enzymatic methods.
