What is propanediol?

Propanediol, a natural solvent and emollient, is derived from sustainable and renewable corn sugar fermentation.

It is not to be confused with propylene glycol. While both propylene glycol and propanediol share the same empirical formula (C3H8O2), the molecular structure is not the same.

Propanediol works as a penetration enhancer by altering the skin’s structure. This allows for the ethylated ascorbic and ferulic acids to penetrate deeper into the skin, and it also works as a skin softener.
